Business IT Basics: Setting Up a Secure Wi-Fi Network for Your Casper Office

A business Wi-Fi network is not the same as the one you run at home. If customers and employees share the same network, your business data is at risk. Here's how to set it up properly.
1. Separate Guest and Employee Networks
Run a dedicated guest SSID that's isolated from your internal network. This lets customers get online without touching your servers, printers, or file shares.
2. Use WPA3 (or WPA2 at Minimum)
WPA3 is the current standard and offers stronger encryption. Disable WEP and WPA — they're easily cracked and a liability for any business IT setup.
3. Segment with VLANs
Use VLANs to separate guest traffic, employee devices, and sensitive systems. If one segment is compromised, the others stay protected.
4. Change Default Credentials
Every router and access point ships with default admin logins. Change them immediately and use a strong, unique password.
5. Keep Firmware Updated
Patch your access points regularly — many breaches exploit known, already-patched vulnerabilities. A managed IT provider handles this automatically.
